Research & Consulting Centers Directorate

Accountability:The Director for Research,Publication,and Ethics Directorate is Accountable to Vice President for Academic, Research, Technology Transfer and Community Service.

             Duties and responsibilities:

 The director shall have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Ensures proper implementation and administration of research and project funds.
  2. Plans, organizes, and leads colleges/schools/centers research activities.
  3. Develops, recommends and implements policies and administrative procedures for college/institute/centers’ research activities.
  4. Monitors the proper implementation of policies, rules and regulations for colleges/schools/centers research activities.
  5. Establishes laboratories for plant and animal biotechnology and Molecular biology research center
  6. Strengths research centers to become standardized level                                                                                                                                                     
  7. Ensures the establishment of research work stations and supervises their activities
  8. Ensures and supervises the establishment of panel of experts for external funds/grants.
  9. Facilitates the development of interdisciplinary research programs in consultation with colleges/schools/centers/units concerned.
  10. Coordinates internal and external assistance for research projects and allocates resources in consultation with the concerned bodies.
  11. Develops research strategic plan.
  12.  Identifies, prioritizes and facilitates the implementation of researches that have national and regional importance.
  13.  Develops plans, sets priorities for establishment of research laboratories and facilities and oversees the implementation of plans.
  14.  Promotes the development of appropriate incentive schemes in the university for researchers.
  15.  Evaluates existing research capacity and identifies gaps and priority areas for capacity building.
  16.  Follows up the formulation of the research coordination structure of the University,
  17.  Monitors implementation of plans for research capacity building.
  18.  Leads the identification of research thematic areas in consultation with concerned bodies.
  19.  Coordinates, registers, monitors and follows up colleges/schools/centers research and related activities.
  20.  Prepares periodic reports on research activities in all colleges and schools.
  21.  Prepares and Disseminates college/school research outputs.
  22.  Facilitates the publication of university-based books, journals, newsletters, proceedings, abstracts.
  23.  Supports PhD and selected self-sponsored MA/MSc researches from each program.
  24.  Link PhD and MA/MSc thematic researches with grants and external funding.
  25.  Charters duties and responsibilities to coordination offices under its auspices.
  26.  Ensures the organization of annual research symposia, seminars and conferences.
  27.  Ensures the linkage of completed research outputs with RTTCS Coordinators and other coordinators under his supervision.
  28.  Oversees workload, incentives and recognitions for researchers are provided according to this guideline.
  29.  Oversees breaches and misconducts are addressed based on the guideline,
  30.  Ensures that completed research results are communicated to the university community. the wider community, the funding organization and stakeholders through all possible means of communication: posters, leaflets, refereed journals, workshops, conferences/symposia, seminars.
  31.  Ensures that published research results are made available to potential users in the university’s libraries, website, research database and distribution of hardcopies to the offices of concerned stakeholders.
  32.  Encourages the researchers to disseminate the research findings to the concerned stakeholders, in national and international workshops, symposia and so on.
  33.  Encourages the publication of research findings in national and international reputable journals and acknowledges researchers in the university website, notice boards and billboards for their contributions through publication and dissemination.
  34.  Documents research outputs, articles, books, proceedings, abstracts and newsletters published by Mekdela Amba University and the University staffs.
  35.  Facilitates the publication of university-based journals and newsletters.
  36. Provides incentives for research outputs published in reputable journals.
  37. Supervises the regularity of journal publications and facilitates journal accreditation process.
  38.  Evaluates the performance of journal and ethical board members.
  39.  Prepares roles and responsibilities of editorial board members of AMU journals.
  40.  Assigns editorial board members based on competition.
  41.  Identify priority research areas and sources of funding for their respective center.
  42.  Develop plans to enhance the research capacities of the center.
  43.  Identify research thematic areas in consultation with key-stakeholders.
  44.  Update data using the university Research Data Base regularly.
  45.  Make sure workload, incentives and recognitions for researchers are provided according to this guideline.
  46.  Performs other related duties provided by the Vice President.
