1. Introduction
Its Well-known that ICT serves as a foundation for many aspects of university operations, teaching, learning, and administration. As a matter of fact, many institutions, industries and governments put their ICT directorate right under the chief executive office within their institutional structure and at ministerial level when it comes to government structure. This supports the fact that an exhaustive use of ICT is a key for organizational success. The history of ICT at Mekdela Amba University, hereafter referred to as MAU, started on 2011 E.C. The broad duty and responsibility of the ICT Directorate is to ensure proper deployment of ICT in teaching, learning, research and overall administration of MAU.
2. Objective
The objective of establishing the ICT Directorate is to empower its capability in ensuring technology supports and enhances the university’s mission, creating a robust and dynamic IT environment conducive to academic and administrative success.
3. Duties and Responsibilities
All the duties and responsibilities of the ICT Directorate focus on the institution’s technology infrastructure supports its Academic, administrative, and research goals by exploiting the potential of ICT. Some of key responsibilities
- ICT is responsible for the planning, management, and direction of technology initiatives in support of both academic and administrative operations in the university.
- Develop ICT strategic plan aiming at providing broad range services and advising the university management on matters related to ICT.
- Ensure the robustness, security, and reliability of the university’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and data centers.
- Administer and upgrade the existing network and Internet infrastructure and provide relevant network-based services.
- Oversee the provision of technical support to staff, students, and faculty, ensuring efficient problem resolution and system usability.
- Provide hardware/software maintenance, and User support services.
- Enhance local content that provide up-to-date information about public relations, academic research, consultancy, and other social activities in the university.
- Plan, design, implement and/or consult the automation of different processes in the university. It is also responsible to follow up existing applications.
- Promote and integrate new technologies that support teaching, learning, and research.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure ICT services and solutions meet their needs.
- Establish and enforce ICT use standards and policies in the university.
- Ensures that the university community has sufficient access to ICT Services.
- Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the technological proficiency of university stakeholders.
